A New Beginning

A New Beginning

Each year, as the summer winds down and September begins, there is a fresh feeling of a new beginning. A new school year brings much anticipation of what is to come. The faculty and staff have had the summer to refresh and work to prepare for the next school year. Many students have been working at summer jobs while others have been relaxing. I hope everyone had an enjoyable break.

As the school year starts, a sense of purpose flows and we can begin to focus on our future. I am always amazed at how the students have matured over the summer as they walk through our doors on the first day of school.

I eagerly look forward to the first day of school. As always, if you have any questions about the upcoming year, please call me at 346-1211, ext. 523. Enjoy your final few days before September 8th.

Sincerely,

Where in the World
A couple of weeks ago I was given a pamphlet that was titled “Where in the World Is Beaver Falls, N.Y.?” This Pamphlet was printed in the late 60’s or early 70’s, to recruit teachers to Beaver River. At the time there was a shortage of teachers and districts were trying new ways to bring quality faculty to their school. The pamphlet was printed by one of the mills in Beaver Falls. It describes the area as one with many outdoor activities and includes a map of our location.

With our current technology climate, its not hard to “google” Beaver Falls, and find a map, with a satellite picture, and then zoom in and find a picture of the school. So now the question of “Where in the world is Beaver River?” is not one of location, but one of academic standing. Here are a few statistics that help us discover this:

  1. According to Yon Zhao, in his book “Catching Up or Leading the Way”, ¼ of high school students in the US do not graduate on time – At Beaver River, on average we have 90% of our students graduate on time, which does not include the students who take their GED, with that included the number rises to nearly 100%.
  2. According to a Study of The Journal of School Health, the average school participation rate in athletics is below 40% - At Beaver River, or rate is around 70%
  3. 68.6 % of high school graduates in the US go on to college- At Beaver River on average 85-90% of our graduates go to college.

With just few statistics, it is easy to see that Beaver River’s students fair well with the rest of the country. Much of this is credited to the community support and parent involvement in school. Thank you for making Beaver River a great place for our students to learn.
